MFK FORUMS R GREAT!! but the saltwater forums.......

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Personally, I like the saltwater forum the way it is. It is just a subforum for the Monster Freshwater Fish Keepers that may also be involved in the saltwater side of fish keeping. I keep both freshwater (Oscars) and saltwater (reef), and I can discuss problems, ideas, and solutions with everyone without having separate forums. Next, someone will want to expand the Reptiles, Amphibians and Other Exotic Pets section. I also keep amphibiums (newts, salamanders, mud puppies and a dwarf siren). The saltwater does not need an individual forum for every species of fish, this is a freshwater forum, so be happy with what we have.

wouldn't u like a bigger SW section???????? i only sad individual species if it gets over crowded. It would be for the good of MFk to increase to SW

Getting a bigger / better SW section is not always about expanding sections, adding sections...

I suppose it all depends on what / how you define bigger. Do you define bigger as in more subforums etc etc or bigger as in more traffic?

For me, bigger and better is more traffic..Subforums, forums split into many area's can / does detract people away from them, simply because they see this complex maze of forums and they get lost and do not know where to post..Some will then simply dump it in the general area...others will simply walk away and post on another forum..

Its very easy to comment on making a forum better from an established members point of view, but, the point of view which can and does get forgotten about it the new members to forum as a whole (MFK) or simply a new member starting in SW..

Its been mentioned a few times that MFK is predominantly a FW forum..Which is true and cant be denied...However, so is AC...SW makes up quite a small portion of AC, however, due to its simplicity, it does very well indeed. In fact, its growing day by day....new members coming across from FW AND new members to the forum...The feedback i get from them is usually along the same lines..."its so easy to find things"....

Can you plz explain how that would work? How would just randomly adding extra SW forums help MFK? If its not gonna help bring more traffic (which it wont) and its not going to bring more knowledgable SW ppl here (which it wont) then what exactly does it achieve other then just having more forums that will end up all having less posts in them.

MFK doesn't hae enough saltwater keepers to justify all the work of THAT much division of this area. In fact, this area is spread pretty thin as it is. We have enough for General Salt, Sharks/Rays, Coral/inverts, Tanks/setups, and MAYBE a health section. A lot of the other stuff would get to specific.

There are other sections of MFK that some of that falls into - we already have a large fish health section on the main forum, a photo section etc... there is no need to seperate the marine owners from freshwater owners in many cases.

So for now - this area will stay as it is.

I'd just like to keep it out of my new post options:)

the forums also cover everything needed as well....
