so how long do the entries run for.... cuz my fam usually dont carve until like a couple days before halloween... so they dont rot outside

I'm starting on mine in a min! Do they have to be traditional pumpkin carvings, or can I go all out and do a 3-d carving from a pumpkin? It's more carving than the traditional hole punching lol. Don't worry guys I'll try to go easy on you, but I've got an awesome Idea!
 
Heres a great example of what NOT to do, awesome carving BUT who can tell me whats wrong with this picture?
