i guess i can understand that .. gar are trash fish around here .. hate em .. but i see them all the time when i fish .. same thing with Pbass i guess .. i have never seen a wild one in real life .. so for me .. its a sweet fish to own .. same with my rays and dats and oscars and all the rest of the fish i own .. none are native to my area and nothing even looks close to them ..

but i will have to agree that MFK is not so much about keeping amazingly large fish .. its about how we take care of our fish ... i bet 90% of the people here keep there fish in better conditions then 99% of the rest of the world .. we love our fish and take care of them .. and some nights .. they eat better then i do .. ok ... most nights ..!!!
 
you see people keep these fish a lot because thats what you keep in big tank. i did not buy a 400g tank to keep platies and swordtails. i bought it to keep the fish that wont fit in a 55g. and its not a "fad". sounds so silly when people talk like that about fish :screwy: its not a purse or a pair of boots. i dont get how fish "go out of style" to some people.

i keep what i keep because i love them, not because of other people. and that would be my CICHLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you guys got wild pbass in ohio???? :popcorn:

and for me, gars dont do anything for me. plecos are the most worthless fish IMO, i would never keep one. dats, too skittish for my tastes. aros i love, along with cichla :)

Yes their called Bluegills though maxing out at a whopping 8 inches.:D
 
What about Tin Foil Barbs and Bala Sharks, people consider them to be community fish most of the time but forget they reach 13-14 inches, and then they come cry to MFKers to buy them..., In addition to my monster tank I keep Angel fish with some apisto's, cory's and ram's. My love for fish started with the small guys, I try not to forget there beauty too.
