Added my favorite shop in Austin, TX:
Aquatek . Great shop. Not the largest, but they get a lot of pretty rare freshwater and saltwater fish in, have a fantastic staff (particularly the owner, Bruce, and Marc; who has a place in Venezuela and organizes trips there sometimes), and a wide selection of Pleco's. They also get in a ton of SA cichlids, a good variety of African cichlids, have a special kili and rare betta section, and carry quite a few monster species including many bichir, TSN, Ripsaw cats; etc. But what really matters is that they keep really good care of their stock and are truly the most friendly and knowledgeable LFS in town.
Sometimes I head downtown to the
Aquadome (which my wife refers to as "the hippie dome"); usually when looking for Australian Rainbows and Discus. They also tend to get in a small number of fairly rare pleco's which they sometimes misname and sell for much cheaper than they should.
I also frequent
River City Aquatics as they are easily the cheapest place in town for Hikari frozen food and have one of the best selections of Discus. They are also probably
the place for African cichlids. My only complaint with them is that their stock often seems unusually stressed, but I suspect that mostly has to do with the volume they deal in since they do a lot of online orders as well.
