if i was to get some 6500k Metal halides would they be any good on a harcore planted tank with huge amounts of co2? fishless.or maybe alot of ottos for the algae.its for light demanding plants

sweet i can afford because i aint got nothing else to do with my money. just went to my lfs they are setting up a massize planted tank. they using halides.

I use a 150 watt 6500K HQI bulb on my 54 corner planted tank. Co2 is at 3 bubbles per second on a timer for 10 hours with the lights. The light casts shadows of both the plants and the fish on the substrate. I don't get much of the shimmering effect because I keep my canister's output below the water surface.

halides are awsome but heat and cost too run can be a problem you get the same amount of lumens(these are the key here) out of T5 HO lights

i must say, thats a nice looking tank you got there. i like the light all over the walls lol.

Thanks! I am swapping out the fixture for a coralife pendant with a 150w HQI tomorrow. The current fixture on the tank is not designed to sit atop a corner tank, and I don't need the PCs and lunar lights, so a smaller fixture was a better plan.
