I have 9 red bellies, they are about 3 inch's long. I have been feeding them bloodworms, brine shrimp, superworms, guppies, and tropical flakes. Last night I dropped a pinkie mouse in there and it was gone in less then 15 sec's. Today I stepped it up and bought some fuzzy mice and a hopper mouse. My question is, at 2-3 inch is the bone and fur from a mouse okay for the pirahnas digestive system? Any thought's or comments would be very helpful, thanks in advance.

I wouldnt waste my time with this practice I mean your free too of course but its probly not the best for the tank all that waste not to mention possible bacteria.

not as healthy as pellets, white fish, shrimp etc... plus your tank will smell like roadkill

idk but its cool!

NO

they are not required in the diet for the piranhas as piranhas cannot digest mammalian meats properly properly not to mention itlooks nasty

at NUBZ: are you a sicko ? you think feeding a live mouse to a bunch of fish that cannot quickly dispatch something is cool?

some would say im a hypocrit for this because i wouldnt hesitate to feed a pinky mouse to my leopard gecko but theres a difference there in that my gecko would instantly break its neck before the mouse knows what happens. the piranhas dont and judging by how piranhas typically consume their prey they would leave its guts hanging out for a while before finishing it at this size of course bigger(12 inches) they could probably finish it of relatively quickly and i wouldnt deem it cruel but at 3 inches no man just no

Sorry that I was not specific but, the pinkie that I feed them last night and the tiny mouse's for today are already dead. They are the freezed brand pre-packaged. I also would think it to be a little screwed to feed live to pirahna's because they wont kill them instantly. I just wanted to make sure that it would not kill my fish. I figured that in the wild if a small mammal were to enter the water on accident or otherwise then it would become part of the pirahna diet.

it wont be terribly bad if you do it once in a blue moon, I just don't see what the point would be if you have more beneficial food available to give.

good point, its funny how we hound about "proper diets" who woulda ever thought that they had frozen frozen shrimp and tropical flakes swimming around the amazon

You mean thier natural diet doesn't consist of pellets and flakes? How do the poor little guys survive in the wild? lol

dont feed them for a week or 2, then do it...worked out fine with mine.

make sure u cover of the exits to your tank b-c the mouse will find a way out haha
