Yesterday I received 9 mice for free. I euthanized one evil female for one of my snakes. So I have 2 harems both 1.2
A few maybe be prego.
And I have 2 spare males(soon to be one;)).
I was wondering how to add additional females to harems.
And how to switch out males in harems.

Maintaining harems is fairly straight forward. Unless you have a psycho female, generally you can swap them at nearly anytime as long as there are not pinkies in the cage at the time. Males can be a bit trickier, the thing to remember with them is they usually just want to breed so if you choose an optimal time, say a day or so after a female has dropped babies, he will usually focus on breeding. Also, unless you are really picky about maintaining bloodlines, it is very possible to keep groups of 2.3 or 2.5 together with no problems. Just remember, they do have tiny little personalities and not everyone plays well with others. I have a couple thousand mice and rats and the secret is finding a mix that works and sticking with it, or maintain individually and only put them together for breeding. They are mice and will often do what they do inspite of out best efforts.

You could also use hairless mice if you wanted to use larger animals as feeders and not have all the hair problems in the filters. Just euthanize first. Animal keepers get enough bad press as it is without another video of kids watching in delight as their fish savage a small mouse to bits while it is still alive.

I want a harem, but not of mice...

After being married for nearly 20 years, I say be careful what you wish for!! Living with one wife can be dicey with our hobby. You are just introducing more opinions on what you like and all of them think you are wrong.

It turns out I have 5.3 mice, and the one that might be pregnant jumped out of her temporary enclosure. Im going to see if my LPS will trade some of there females with me.
Any tips on finding a mouse? It should still be in my room

Well. someone was selling mice so I bought 20 with the idea of killing them all end throwing them in the freezer. When I told the guy That this is what I was going to do, he told me that a few of the females were pregnant and I should breed them myself. Despite all the horrors of my last attempt at keeping mice, I decided to give it another go. I also was given a 10 gallon by a family member. I already fed 2 males to my snakes so I have 18 in the 10 gallon but the number will be reduced soon. I am just having a lot of trouble telling if and which nice are pregnant.
