Microscope recording - Parasites?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Do they move? To me they don't look like something living, more like some structure in a food item that the ray ate. What do you feed?

Hello; maybe a roundworm?

I agree, looks like roundworm. But I would expect some movement somewhere? Thoughts?

Are your fish ill or are you just investigating Proximus Proximus ?

spotfin spotfin They dont move at all. I only feed these particular stingrays with earthworms and mysis shrimp. Could it be that these things comes from bad earthworms..?

Dieselhybrid Dieselhybrid Still investigating, the fishes seems fine. All those "big" worms that moved around have been absence after i treated the tank with praziquantel (Sera Tremazol). But the things in this video are still in there as you can see. I have been observing them for several minutes at the time, at two occasions recently - they just lay there. If i am not mistaking there are several different types of roundworms. But i am under the impression that all roundworms do move around, so this is still a mystery to me.

Could it be that the creatures on this video are just at a certan life-stage, where they are passive? Hope to figure this out!

For the record; the sample i show in the video are from fresh poop.

Hey there!
Those are definitely the "setae" or the bristles from an earthworm. I had the EXACT same microscopic experience scoping the poop from a green terror - saw all these, they look kind of like worms... but they don't move and all have the same rigid shape. I had fed earthworms lately, and it occurred to me that they might be the bristles. Looked up examples of earthworm bristles, and that's totally what they are. So, no concerns as far as I know. :)

That was remarkable. Bravo
