I’ve always loved siluridae catfish but have never kept one in the family. Is there any that can be kept in a large home aquarium(75 or 125 gallon) that can be sourced in the US? I considered wallago attus but they’re probably too big for my set ups. Also considered Ompoks but they seem to be rare.

If any silurid will do, glass catfish (Kryptopterus) belong to the family, are available in just about any store, and will easily fit in a 29g as a species tank. Very nice fish when fully grown, too, if a bit shy.

If you want the streamlined look in e.g. Wallago, maybe consider one of the smaller auchenopterids like Trachelyopterus. T. fisheri is commercially bred now and should be easy to source, and other than the specialized dorsal fin they look close enough to silurids... if you squint a little. I heard that they are consummate hiders, however.

I saw the glass catfish(Kryptopterus) at my LFS the other day. I like the look of them just wish they grew a bit bigger lol. I’ve never heard of the Trachelyopterus before they kind of look like a mix between a silurid and Sun Catfish(Horabagrus). Thanks!
