i just bought a midas cichlid at pet smart and the woman said he had agression comparable to an oscar so i bought him. Now i know i should have known better but this is what i got in a 75gallon:
6"jurapari
13" caecillian worm
3" firemouth
3" jd
5"pink kisser
6" black ghost knife
3" gold nugget pleco
5" african knife
3" midas
question: will these fish be ok until i get a 200gal and perhaps for how long and should i move some fish into another tank? i also have a 65 gallon w/ a 10 gallon sump with (2) 3" oscars any pointers would be appreciated

put it in and watch what happens. You will be able to tell if you need to remove him or not. It seems like there is a lot of fish in the 75 gal so you might not want them in there for over a couple of months.

I dont know much about them, but from my limited experience with aggressive cichlids it will probably be a problem. I have a large red devil that is alone in a 90. She seems all sweet to new fish when Ive tried, she acts perfect. Then ill come back or find a massacre. They also appear to grow fairly quickly and im sure as others will point out, aggression often can get worse once they reach maturity. Sorry for such basic info, I do not know much about your fish, but from numbers and size of fish n tank it just seems like its got to be an issue eventually. Fish will grow large too. You got any pics of the litle one?

In a tank that size, it is very unlikely the Midas will play nicely. A Midas needs 75 gallons to itself when mature and will be aggressive in any tank less than several hundred gallons.

well problem solved i returned him to the pet store and got a bichir instead thanks for your info
