IMO you could do a midas in a 4' by 18" foot print.

but no tank mates... they dont allow for it im afraid.

if it were a regular tank that would be about 90 gallons right?

You caught the "Midas Madness" disease too?:screwy: I would recomend atleast a 75g for a Midas, and thats only for one. But, there is always room for upgrading. They are a great fish and very interactive! Mine was always so bad *ss :D. Good luck.

LOL Too true!

Anyway, if you buy a Midas as a Juvi, 3" or less in a 60g you can do tank mates. Just be sure to have lots of hiding places for everyone and keep you're eyes peeled!

Tank mates? LOL Try, try, and try again..... Anything equally aggressive, same size or bigger and keep trying. LOL

Hardy plecs, common, gibby etc will work. I have no aggression problems with the fish in my sig co-habiting, the gourami and my midas are inseperable although the midas is only 4"at present. I expect to move the midas into it's own 75 eventually but i will still have it with a the striped raph and one of the plecs either the literatus or the gibby. I suggest experimenting and not just keeping the midas on it's own just because others have had aggression bother.

Midas will need at least a 75 for the one fish at 6-10". Any larger specimen should be in a larger aquarium with a 125 being the minimum for adding other cichlids.

You deffo need a bigger tank for keeping midas, mine live really well with all my other fish, some you would not expect but i have a huge tank for them. The best way to get midas living with other fish is to raise a group from baby's and try not to change the dynamics of the tank too much - i.e introducing other fish when adults, this is when you will get problems as they will already have established the pecking order and there own terratory. Dollars (kept in shoal's) and other such fish are always good for diverting aggressision from other large cichlids in the tank, but basically enough room, good filtaration, temp not too high as this can increase aggression and they will be fine.

Get a breeding pair of convicts. The male and female together will have enough attitude to deal with the Midas. Thats the only thing that mine has done ok with. I do have a bunch of little caves for them to bolt to if he gets a little crabby.

that size aquarium is barley a minimum for a full grown midas. even at small sizes thet will pick on other fish unless bigger than them.

A full grown Midas would absolutely hate that tank. He needs a bigger tank. Midas grow fast too. It will be ready to leave the tank in a year.

dude...ok...yes you need a bigger tank IN THE FUTURE...your fine right now. i have a red devil (almost identical in behavior and looks to a midas) and ive got a jack dempsey with it along with another juvenile red devil..like me tho...im planning on upgrading soon..so for now you should be alright with whatever you feel like cichlid wise, just make alot of hiding places for other fish you might add so your midas doesnt end up killing it.

hope this helps some...

just because its working for this guy at the moment (not for long) doesn't mean its going to work for you. I wouldn't suggest anything with a midas in a 60. As long as your tank has is 18" deep he will be okay. Keep him solo and have a glass banger. The big guy in my avatar is in a 60 in my dining room.

What?? what ever!! midas cichlid's, are not nearly as strong as red devil cichlid's!! I've kept 1 (4 inch) midas and he got owned by a 1 inch convict...so I gave the midas back to the store! I'm never going to get one ever again! :( . but you can keep them with most cichlid's. as long as he doesn't get beat up lol
