Midas in LFS that appears to have severe HITH?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think I'm going to make it there today, hubby is going to be working late and I don't drive. lol

They said they would hold him for me if I want him, but I want to go back in and get another look at him first. I was too shocked looking at his head to really get a good look at the rest of him.

He's tagged as a Red Devil.. and apparently they want $50 for him. LOL

A 10" Midas with HITH for $50...Ask them to lower the price. They shouldn't charge you that much for a sick fish.

I was shocked when the kid gave me the price today. I'm definitely going to talk to the owner about it.

They seem to think the holes in his head are going to close completely up. Highly doubtful with them being as deep as they are, but I guess you never know.

I'll keep you all posted. I have to pick up my sand on Saturday.. so I want to go up there Sunday unless hubby is done work early the week.

Have you considered speeding up the cycle by adding mature bacteria from your oscar tank? You could take a few handfuls of ceramic rings or sponges or whatever, shake them around in the 90g tank water, and then put them in the filter. That's how I "instant-cycle" all of my tanks. You just have to either add the fish within 24 hours of seeding, or continue adding ammonia.

I no longer have the Oscars. They went to a good home though and are still doing well. I sold all my tanks 4 years ago. This 90g is my 'getting back into the hobby' tank. lol

Ohhhhh ok I see. :) Well a Midas is definitely one of the best solo fish you can have.

And I second the opinion that $50 is too much... way too much, for a fish with HITH.

No news yet. I'm not going to be able to make it there until the weekend. Calling is pointless... I'm not getting straight answers on the phone. One person says they will hold him and another says they don't do that.
