I been wanting a midas for a while now. Been doing alot of reading on them. However depending on the site they very in tank size. i know the bigger the better but can a midas live in a 55 gallon for life and be happy? i have 2 empty 55 and i want t set it up for a aggressive single fish. I like to house a midas in one. Any info would be greatful. thanks

If i was to use the 55 gallon for a grow out, could he stay in it for about 6-7 months before the upgraded is needed? I could upgrade to a 75 but it will take at least 6 months before i can do so.

Midas grow really fast ive had a 4" midas reach 8" in a little over 3 months.... To answer your question i would say No they are extremely fast growers.... As for tank size i would say a 75-90 minimum but after they become brutes you may need to get it its own 125

if you get a small one around 3in or less than it should be fine in a 55g for 6months but yeah like the others have said a 75g is definitely preferred since they get as long as a 55g is wide and would have issues with turning and they can reach a foot in a little over a year (some reach 12in within a year) but you should be alright with upgrading in 6months if you start small since they tend to slow down in growth once they reach 8-9in

thanks for the info.
i think im just going to sell the 2 55 then take that money and buy the biggest tank i can before i get one. lol man i can not even begain to tell ya how much i want one. hahaha

yeah they are awesome fish, i regret getting rid of mine and have been thinking about contacting the guy and seeing if he wants to trade or something haha

that sounds like a great idea. I would go with a 125 (6' x 18" footprint) or a 120 (4' x 2' footprint). You will most definitely not be disappointed. :)

i will most likely go for the 4x2 tank setup. As much as i would love to have another 125, i really dont have the room for another 6 footer...lol
