I woke up this morning to find my jag torn to pieces. But what is weird is the jag and midas usually never bother each other and they are in a 240. So there is plenty of room. They were both about 6inches in size. They were both fine last nite when I went to bed and when I woke up this morining the jag was torn to shreds. I think that my midas went nuts over nite.

my midas goes nuts as well but there is many larger cichlids that keep mine in place..... what else do you have in there?

whos the biggest fish in there? if its the midas you might expext a few more dead fish as he matures.......

Bad things usually happen at night.

Sorry to hear about you fish. Sometimes it happens when you mix aggressive fish.

This is why mixing aggressive fish is always a gamble. Each has its own personality. I would be really wary of mixing your Midas with other fish now. Chances are you'll see a repeat performance.

A lot of people think fish mellow out when you turn the lights off, but I found out the opposite is true with my psittacus. If I have smaller fish in the tank and have the lights on he's fine, but as soon as the lights go out he goes into hunting mode. His colors turn dark and he stalks fish around the tank, darting at them and attacking them. So maybe your Midas waited until lights out to ambush.

Sounds to me like it must have been an epic battle. Too bad you didnt hear the commotion. Sorry for your loss. There is a Midas in Shark Aq. if you get any where near his tank he starts swimming round and round with his body half out of the water splashing people. Like he's some sort of shark. He's pushing 12in. In my opinion, nothing can beat a mature Midas gone mad!

get rid of that midas. there a dime a dozen. dont take a chance on loosing your argentae. midas/rd are known killers as jags are usually more terratorial. loose the rd and pick up another jag to keep with your fish.
