midas or red devil???

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Awesome picture to use identifying them apart.
I think the lips shrink in captivity because of how they eat in the wild.
No doubt they will still be fleshy though!

You are mistaken....... Actually, 90%+ in the wild are grey.

Are you being serious?

Agree!

also, red devil have a "hook" on the top of they're lip.

true red devils aren't too hard to find, but true midas are. if you want to get a midas, you'll have to get one from a reputable breeder, as mentioned above.

there's no way to know FOR SURE without dna testing...if you bought it from an lfs then 99% chance it's a hybrid of the 2. if you want the best chance of getting a pure devil or midas...go with a reputable breeder/importer/collector. :)

thanks for the question. this was a good one cause i've been wondering the samething. i own a RD then theres this other fish i've brought out of the RD tank @ my local LFS but it differ from red devilhttp://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjedRsMTve4check it out tell me what you think. they mated had fries and it seems like the fries look more barred to me. Oh by the way that avatar is fred an one of his fry.

Red Devil: V shaped lips, slender body, fatter lips on some ocasions

Midas: U shaped lips, thicker, deeper body, lips not so fat and chunky as Labitus
