Midas problems

If you have to ask if he's a midas then he's a midevil. Still a nice fish though.

Your problem is you have too many big fish in a 125. If you get rid of him the next dominant amphilophus will just take his place & the cycle will start all over. 4 midas/red devils/midevils in a single 125 will not work especially if you have more than 1 male. You will be lucky to get 2 that will live together decent. 1 black belt, 1 midevil, and maybe some convicts (target fish) "might" work. These are just the wrong fish for a community like you have.

The oscar, slow growing festae, & both vieja's will come out on the short end of the stick in a disagreement. You can thin out the tank now on your terms or the devils will thin it out as they see fit. Sucks I know, but at least you got a warning instead of waking up to a tank full of murdered fish. Try to find 2 bigger fish that you like & if their aggressive (don't do 2 males) then try some smaller target fish (like cons) to prevent singled out bullying from the more dominant fish. I would also recommend some decor that will break up the aggressor's line of sight & to divide up territories. This still may not work though.

Thanks for the advice. I have a big decision to make.

as above mate, should give him the tank with maybe a large pleco as company... im slimming my tank out tomorrow i sold 6 of the 15 fish in my 300, they are being collected tomorrow, only due to stocking in my case but it is hard but you have to do whats best for the fish...

That midas is a beauty, he is a great example of how a wet pet should be anyhow in my opinion, aggressive and pretty. could start a tank of feeder mollys to keep things interesting of ive even seen large aggressive cichlids ignore tiny fish and live with shoals of neons!

Think i might sell him, but it's hard.

Like stated above, just taking that 1 fish out more than likely won't solve the problem... 1 of your other fish will definitely take notice that the boss of the tank isn't there anymore and then you'll probably have a new bully to worry about. Personally, I'd just stick with the Midas if he's your favorite fish. Otherwise, u may have to completely start over if u want anything to work long term. I tried many combinations of aggressive cichlids over the last 2 years and I'm left with 1 Jaguar Cichlid in my 125... nothing worked for longer than a few months and got sick of constantly buying/selling fish back to the LFS.
