Midas Question

Midas' and other large ca cichlids are by far my fave fish to keep, they just make it a pain when it comes to finding tankmates. I quit trying with my jag and rd fh. I have a 4" striped raphael in with my 3" labiatum and only time will tell if that will work out. Maybe some day I will start a peaceful large comm. tank with some vieja and bichirs and such! Good luck with what you decide!

I had 2 Jack Dempsey tank mates for a period of time with my Midas. I eventually took them in to a LFS and swapped them for some supplies. They were just too stressed because they were constantly being attacked. My Midas just killed about an 8" pleco that had been in the tank ever since I got the Midas. He has also killed several other Plecos I've tried to put in there since. At this point I have come to terms with the fact that he isn't going to allow tank mates

I have my male rd/Midas with a female Midas, couple aros, jurenese catfish and 6 birchirs (3x ornates 11-14in an 3x endlis 12-13in) in a 240g. The rd/Midas doesn't bother the bichirs. But I think in a 55 you will have problems and the tank maybe too small unless you have a female Midas.
