midas question

I have been looking around for a extra tank,that has at least 18 inches in width.What would be more comfortable for a Midas?Would it be width and length or just width of the tank?I have been wanting a Midas,but it wont work out too well with the other cichlids I have in my tank,its a 125 gallon and I wont be getting rid of my cichlids,just to have 1 cichlid in the tank.I would only get rid of a couple,who are not fast growers at all,which that i what I am noticing from two of my cichlids.

the wider the better. if you are on a budget a 60 gallon 18" wide will be good. 55 gal w/12" wide can work

I have spotted a marineland tank,where its a bowfront 46 gallon,36x16x24 actually.

IMO you'd want a 75g (48x18x18") for a fish of that size, even by itself. Anything smaller is going to make it look/feel cramped.

I would of thought width would be the most important,but I take it length counts as well?

both count remember midas get 12-14" and are stocky bodied fish.... a 75 or 90 would be minimum

No pet store by me carries 90 gallons and craiglists people ask more then for what they are worth even here in Illinois.Not sure why people on craigslist think they can get back the value they paid into a fish tank,its just like a car,the tank and equipment loses its value.

I started my Midas in a 65g breeder sized tank (36x18x25) and I think it would have worked fine for his entire life. But this is normally a harder tank to find, I got mine used for a great price. The 75g would be an easier tank to find and in the long run the bit of extra swim space would be appreciated.

x2. 48x18 footprint AT LEAST. Anyone who's seen a full-grown male Midas knows what bruisers they eventually turn into. Many of these beasts will make a 75g look tiny.

Agree with most. A 75g would be the bare minimum for a single Midas to live confortably. If you want the best potential for your fish, give it the best. if you can't go larger then a 65g bowed get one of the smaller species of Amphilophus.
