Midas tank size

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A little late to this, but IMO & IME your tank size is a little on the tight side, for a full grown male Amphilophus cit. It will work, but unfortunately in this size of tank you can't add much in the way of decor. Again, unfortunate because this species does in fact appreciate a hide/cave, and again IME this isn't something that leaves this species in domestic strains. This genetic code is imprinted from birth, and in the one pic that loaded for me, your fish is actually utilizing the driftwood for just that, a hide to escape danger/predators.

Good luck, one of my all time favorite species.

Thanks for your explanation. I tried to give him more swim space and just one hide. Thats the current state of the tank….

For now he‘s about 8 inch. What I read about growth I should have at least 2 years until he reaches 12inch+? After that I should be able to upgrade the tank if I notice that the tank is to small. At least I hope so ?

Sounds like you have a good plan, enjoy your new fish!
