but seriously you probabally wont want to put anything in with it. I would just get a couple large lava rocks they a great home for beneficial bacteria.

I have rarely seen Mates.. I think the most common set up I've SEEN as i never have owned.. Was gravel and external baqckground.. As most I've seen were in 55 or 75 g tanks.. Not much else ..

But for a 125gallon Ive kept my 12" male midas with 10" tiger oscar, 9" tiger oscar, 7" male midas (offspring), and bunch of raphael catfish and common pleco (free adopted from petco). Even that most fish will get a beatting here and there.
