My midas is trying to spawn alone, I lost her mate a few weeks ago and she keeps trying to spawn and is tearing up my entire tank. She has never been this aggressive before. What can I do to keep her from spawning. She was usually a very peaceful fish.

Not much You can do that I can think of. What is the tank temp? if it's around 80 you can try lowering it to 76 maybe. This can help. Most do get kinda crazy at some point, some earlier on then others but it's just their nature.

Agreed. The only other thing would be get her a descent sized male.

She paired up with my flowerhorn, I lost him tho. The flowerhorn kept everyone in the tank in there place. I ended up with some fry from the two of them just before he died. Hopefully I can grow a few out...

The water temp is at 80 with my heater on low. I unplugged the heater so I'll get it down a few more degrees and I Hope it works. I'm looking for a replacement flowerhorn. I'm more than likely gonna have to grow one out. Looks like I will have to build a barrier in my tank

If she's a Midas get her another mate a slightly larger male. The fry from the flowerhorne can then be used as feeders.

yeah just keep looking and try finding her a big midas male (creamsicle ones are SWEET) only thing i can think of other than lowering temp a couple degrees is maybe trying to limit the amount of light she is receiving to only a couple hours (this is what you would do for birds but have no idea if the same concept applies to fish)

I found 3 5-6'' JD's and a 4'' midas male to keep her occupied. I lowered my temp to about 76. She has quit trying to spawn, and her aggression is down about 20%. Still looking for a big aggressive midas of Flowerhorn to keep her in check.

I don't think the turning the lights off trick works with fish like it does birds. I can hear this midas attacking the other fish and crashing into the rocks at 2 am. Birds are dumb...
