Midas Vs Oscar - help wanted !

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Agressive fish can be a problem but if you can find a good mate alot of thats stops,at least for awhile . lot of rocks and hidding places can help that. Ocsar get big so even though they can be kept with other fish you need alot tank.

I have had both and always end up back with Midas. Oscars only think about food. Midas think food and that they also want to bite you.

IMO that's not a pure Citrinellum. Looks more Labiatum to me, but most likely a mix of the two depending upon where you purchased him from. That being said, I'd still keep him over the Oscar any day. I'd say Midas/Red Devil personality is right up there with that of FHs. Some people prefer the pure-bred however, and refuse to delve into the FH realm.

:iagree::iagree:
Well I would go Midas, and if your heart is set on a Midas, you may want to get one. I have done Labiatus (Red Devils) for many years, and the pictures you have look very much like a Red Devil.

A true Midas has a nose/mouth shaped like a U, more blunt. A Devil is more shaped like a V, more of a point. Now with all of the cross breeding between the Devil & Midas, it is getting harder & harder to tell a true Devil.

IMO I would say yours is Labiatus. It may be a MiDevil, but I would lean towards Devil.

With that said, I would keep the Devil. I find Devils are far more entertaining than the Midas. I have both and several Amphs from the Midas side, but I truly like the Devils and their personality.

Midas all the way! Oscars dont look that great to me, although ive raised a few. they definitely have the personality, but midas/red devils have better color and are a bit cleaner IMO

I'd take an oscar over a midas anyday. I like oscars personality better and I think that midas just look too plain. Kind of like a big goldfish lol.

Oscars seem to get a bad rap on this site for whatever reason (fish snobs)... but there is a reason that they are so "common".

Midas for sure. Oscars are just lazy until you feed them But they do look cool.

I have an Oscar an a newly purches Midas/red devil (about 2 week) If you have the tank space i would diffently go with the Midas/ red devil

Why do people in love with Oscars always call any other people on this site that disagree with them Fish Snobs? I hear more people with Oscars complaining about this site and other member's differing opinions on Oscars than any other cichlid. I think everyone is entitled to their opinion. If the majority of those opinions are not in favor of Oscars, it doesn't make them snobs or Oscar haters. I actually like wild Oscars. They are beautiful fish to me. I have never owned one but would like to at some point. I think that many people who began keeping fish started out with the fish commonly found at pet stores. That includes Oscars for the most part. Then as people progress in the hobby and learn about the great assortment of cichlids available from other members and online vendors, they lose a little interest in the more common fish in favor of keeping fish that are not necessarily seen in pet stores on a regular basis. People are just voicing their experiences with keeping Oscars, both good and bad. That doesn't make them ALL snobs or haters. There is also a site devoted totally to Oscars to anyone that wants to hear mostly great things about them.
