Midas vs Red Devil

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As said above, its most likely a hybrid between the two. But, Red devils are usually leaner and their mouth comes more to a point. And Midas are a lot thicker and mouth usually is more blunt. Kinda looks like a bull dog. Not 100% way to tell the species. Either way you got a great fish.

<====== Look at my avatar, he is a Midas.

Pure red devils are much more common than pure midas. Most are actually hybrids to some point, but there are still a lot of pure red devils. Wild specimens of red devils have huge pronounced lips, but in captive aquaria the difference is not so obvious... however, you can tell.... sort of

the key here is the nose and mouth.
labiatus have elongated noses with huge azz lips
easy characteristic to spot.
labiatus also usually look a little long, but that isn't always the case.

you can buy either from rapps in so many colours lol.
he's got a lot of choices.

the only way to tell for sure, is to buy from a reputable source

things you can look out for in labiatus are slender more predator like body shape, and big thick lips.

with the citrinellus the body tends to be deeper, the fish being stockier on a whole and the lips not so big.
