Hello,
Question about midas water parameters. I'm sure it's been asked before but writing 'ph' using the search function doesn't work. Guess it´s too short.

I know anything between PH 6 and PH 8 is okay, but I want to test if his hump grows and his colors will show better when the water has the optimal ph.

Because when I lowered the temperature from 88 to 82 his hump got bigger and his colors also show more.

I thought temperature would be best around 80 and the ph 7.5. But websites give a lot of conflicting information.

Thanks

Is this fish WC or tank breed? Do you know it is A. Citronellus for sure? If it is WC do you know ths collection point?

Consistency of parameters and good water quality is more important than trying to manipulate pH. If adding chemicals makes you change water less often, because it makes water changes tedious or complicated, then the manipulation is not worth the effort.
Frequent water changes with normal tap water will do much more for the fishes health than slight pH adjustment.

Nah his dad is wildcaught, he is in the tank of a friend of mine. I don´t know if it´s Citrinellum for sure but what else could it be? Red devils are not so bulky right?

Yes I guess I will just leave messing with the ph. It's a lot of effort. The only thing I can think of is put a 30 gallon tank next to this one and fill it up with the new water and then match ph's before it goes into the main tank.

and as for temperature? because I definately see an improvement when it went down from 88 to 82

I would not mess with water chemistry, frequent water changes and a clean tank is where you should concentrate your efforts. 80 - 82 is a good temp range. Good food and clean water is the best combination for a healty fish and you will get the most genetical potential the fish is capable of.

Yea I'll just do that, thanks.

The thing is, I got rid of all my other cichlids and decided to just grow a huge midas. Result is I'm not used to so little tank maintainance.
Ammonia, nitrites and nitrates are all zero (interesting combo Seachem Matrix and Purigen), so I come up with this kind of projects to "improve" something. But this one is really not worth the effort I guess.
