Can I raise festaes with some convicts? Same size.

As long as the tank is big enough.Would be better if the festae were larger than the convicts though.

I wouldnt. If they are the same size, chances are the convicts are older, wiser and understand already that murder works for species domination.

Plus cons will be spawning at 1" and more and will decimate a festae population of an inch.

As expensive as Festae generally are and how long it takes to get them to a decent size, I wouldn't chance losing any of them to a rampaging Midas or RD bent on tank domination. Festae have enough trouble dealing with their own kind as they mature. Maybe wait until you have a large Festae and a larger tank. But even then it's a gamble.

Exactly. If you're lucky to have a festae why would you risk it like that? Don't put it with any fish that might harm it... not even as adults.

yeah i mean i think you would have better luck with a midas than a red devil, but since they grow way faster than festae you would have issues when the midas has doubled in size and the festae have barely gotten any bigger....

Thats what I taught....that the midas or red devil would outgrow the festaes and mess them up !

I agree with the above posts, but there are smaller growing and less aggressive amphilophus species tha could work in a grow out tank especially since you've got every one small. Try xiloensis, saggitae, zailioensis and possibly lyonsi

Just a question for the adult festae owners... Would an adult festae stand a chance against a Midas/RD of the same size?

My RD's & Midas were/are mental from 3"-8".
My biggest guy just started to settle down a bit to where he "tolerates" tank mates(for now).
I'm conditioning him(with my hybrids) for mates, when I upgrade to a much larger tank.
My RD(big guy) is 5-8X bigger than his mates, lots of chasing but no deaths(yet).
He hates the female I have, & she's a real tough b*tch.
She laid eggs in a separate tank directly after taking a lil beating in the males tank.

That said...
I think if there's enough space, these fish might work if they're all closer to full size.

I've seen adult Festae and Midas kept together. The successful tanks that I've seen are usually really large tanks. I believe Greenterra has a Festae and a Midas together along with some other big boys. All of his fish are in excellent condition too.
