yea they been moved to the community tank at which she perked up to see him again.they are in with few other aggressive ca's which im keeping an eye on things.hes normally friendly to other fish solo but with the mate and no fry hes more into her than worrying about the others it seems.yea he doesnt seem to follow the pattern of wanting to breed and abusing her for not wanting to? they went for months paired without spawning due to my fault not having the temp high enough at which when set it to 82+ they spawned within days.which he then forced her to stay with the eggs no matter what she couldnt leave them,he wouldnt allow it,,,once fry were hatched he let her out with them to the pit he had dug but she couldnt go anywhere else..then he got to the point of almost obsession defending the fry,,he'd attack the heater, the glass, hob intake,my hands, net it didnt matter, was 100% fearless, was crazy to watch him change and now hes back to his old self where hes nice to her, follows her around the tank lol.when i first put him in he wanted out in the worst way,he'd let the other fish bite and size him up without caring he just paced the tank.so much personality they have.it is what drew me to keeping themI had this same problem a few months ago with Sajica cichlids. It's the first time i'd experienced it but just left them to get on with it, unfortunately the parents health started to decline and they never recovered. It was a real shame, i would also recommend moving the fry if you want to keep the parents healthy. You will notice them grow more when with the parents because they're getting extra food from the slime coat but as suggested, just make sure you feed them little bits of high protein food regularly instead. A bit of egg yolk can be good but be careful not to overdo it. I would also watch how your parent fish get along, if the Male decides he wants to breed again and the female doesn't it'll not end well so a divider might be a good idea just in case. I've also had that problem with Red Devils, thankfully the female had a cave she could get into which the male was too big for.
