I'm looking into some nice, slow growing midground plants that can be rooted for my ten gallon aquascape. For perspective, this plant is going to be in between vallisneria in the back and glosso in the front. I'm not looking into anything fast growing, since they're isn't too much space and it would be a pain to have it spreading everywhere.

I've thought about the following plants:
-Cryptocoryne parva
-Echinodorus tenellus
-Blyxa Japonica

Thoughts? Pictures? Just looking for some ideas.

Hi there, you said you are looking for midground plants. The plants you`ve chosen only grow to a height of about 5~10cm, and are usually used in the foreground. To get a nice tapered balanced effect, the norm is to use short plants in front, medium sized plants in the middle and tall plants at the back. Therefore I would suggest Crypto wendettii brown as this doesn`t grow to fast but grows taller than the plants you mentioned.

Others you could try are Crypto affinis, Crypto willisii. Microsorium is another which grows slowly, and this would need to be attached to a rock or driftwood.

Hope this helped? Outlander.

Thanks for the input so far. I do like crypts, but they can get as tall as my tank is. That's partly the problem. I'm looking for something in the range of 3-6 inches. I'm sort of leaning towards blyxa, simply because it doesn't reproduce with runners.

I also like the idea of micro sword, but how fast does it spread?

go with the b. japonica, in a ten gallon tank I think it would grow to a good height and lookk nice
