midsize puffer?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
so would a SAP be better in a 29g with for now a 5" pleco, 5" P. senegalus, and a juvenile: T. Sev & Curviceps cichlids?
Nope, that tank is overstocked as it it.
lol so a 55g?? hopefully? with other SA/CA small cichlids (severums, firemouths, curviceps, etc)

A 55 is better. Just beware--anything that can fit a puffer into it's mouth is in danger of either swallowing a balloonfull of prickles or being poisoned by it's meal.

roger that. thanks!
ok so just making sure (cause i like happy fish)
a SAP would coexist with: 1-4 severums, 2-3 firemouths, 2-3 Curviceps(or not)(rams maybe)(insert others smaller docile cichlids here), 1-5 zebra or yoyo loaches, a pleco and a bichir?

Woah! Not all in a 55g tank! You need to research the adult sizes of those fish.

the largest fish on there is a severum 6-7" ok so 1 of those lol...dang this plan keeps getting worse and worse :(

At least you'r doing some research & planning ahead.

Sap's are too high maintenance. The very first fish I ever owned was a SAP and I had to knock it out with clove oil and clip it's teeth every 4 months. That's WITH feeding him the snails I bred too. God I loved that fish to death.

edit/ Literally! I ended up killing it. I accidentally put 3 drops of clove oil for one cup of water instead of the usual 1 drop for 3 cups. I don't know what I was thinking. I was devastated...

man that bites! and i know about the dentistry, ive read a lot of pufferpunks posts haha so i know what im in for... i just want it to go with my other fish i already have that are getting a new tank soon... if not oh well, ill buy him a 30g heavily decorated for himself

That's so sad... I killed one with CO, because it was too weak from starvation from the long teeth to tranq. It took forever to wake up & it just wasn't right after that. Died 2 days later. Much safer, is FINQUEL.

Finquel is good, but you still must be careful. An overdose will kill the fish. You also need to be careful with pH. if your water is not well buffered and can make it rather acidic.
