Mike's 45 gallon long (48"x12"x19") planted tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nah, just the Sat+ and a SunSun canister filter, I love messing with the settings on the light, the setting to mimic lightening freak out the fish lol.

This light is a great toy for big kids, lots of buttons. I just love how the fish look so incredibly different under each color setting. I don't use the lightning features either. Real lightning from a nearby window will freak them out enough. No need to simulate with flashing light or add stress. I've found the best light for plants to be the preset yellow. Looking forward to pics of your setup and different light settings. Let's see how long you have this setup before you start over 😉

I'm going to move the Sat+ to my 30 gallon tank, and move a 36" T8 onto the 45 gallon tank until I can get bulbs for my 48" T8 double bulb fixture I got with the 30 gallon tank. I still have the 48" Odyssea T5HO lighting system from the 45 gallon tank, but I want to go low tech with both tanks so I feel using T8 systems would be better for doing that.

Lol, that didn't take long

Lol, I figure since the Sat+ I have is 36", and my 30 gallon tank is 36" it would be the best solution. Plus I have a new 48" T8 fixture sitting in my Durango, I might as well use it since I want to go low tech - low light Amazon style tanks. I just wish my darn family would return my effing camera so I can get started on my 30 gallon tank!!!!!

So tomorrow this tank is coming down!!! Because all of the plants, and fish have been transferred to my 30 gallon amazon biotope tank. But I'm just tearing it down in order to remove the floramax from it, clean it up, then set it back up as another amazon biotope with play sand, and fake plants, etc.... It will house 3 Altum Angelfish, 20 Cardinal Tetras, 5 Peppered Cory catfish, and 2 true Siamese Algae Eaters.

I get both the flourite and floramax from Petsmart, if you go to

www.petsmart.com

At the top it has the search area for the site, enter flourite and press enter and it'll take you to the flourite, and then click on "check store availability" and enter your zip code and it'll pull up stores that have it in stock in your area. Then repeat the search but enter Flora Max and it'll take you to the floramax, and click the check store availability again and see if the store that has the flouriite has floramax in stock. Then you call call the store, speak to someone in the fish section and ask them to see if they can save some for you, and go pick it up.
Hi Mike sorry to bother you again but could you please tell me where you get the Amazonia aqua soil from? I went to petsmart today and got 2 bags of fluorite and 2 bags of floramax but they said they do not carry the Amazonia soil..
Thank you again for any help you can give me with this...

Flouite, and Floramax should work; I've them in most of my planted tanks with great success, basically the substrates are inert meaning there's no fertilizers in them, which is why people use either a liquid solution like Seachem Flourish lines of products, or they use dry fertilizers which means you can make your own solution or dose them dry. By dosing fertilizers in a planted tank means that you're supplying the plants the nutrients they need to survive, these substrate are able to soak up the nutrients, and release the nutrients back to the plants over time.
