millet substrate??

!!!! My computer loves to freeze itself when I have a long, drawn out forum post and make me retype it all.... :swear:

Okay... What Im using is not Excavator. Its called 'High Desert Play Sand', from Home Depot. Its for landscaping, sandboxes, and stuff like that. It cost about 2 bucks for a 10 pound bag. Its not terribly dusty like the Vita-Sand (DO NOT use that stuff, Ive got horror stories...) and holds a temporary burrow for a while. My beardie cant build a full-blown burrow (cage isnt deep enough), but he makes temporary overhangs in it to sleep under sometimes.

Excavtor is a total load of crap in my opinion. BUT, if its good for any herp, its probably leos. From what I hear, its mighty abrasive and holds like concrete. Renders all burrowing attempts null and void. If its good for anything, its childrens dioramas and stuff. And pound for pound its pretty expensive. Half the pet store substrates are horrible, expensive, and sometimes downright dangerous and the ones you can get from Home Depot, etc can be 2 bucks for 10 pounds, and those are the ones that are actually worth something. Lots of varieties of sand, mulch, topsoil, decomposed granite, blah blah blah...

loco, I think the stuff you have is called 'excavator', I use it for my leos too, and so far I'm really pleased with it. Way better than that dusty vitasand crap that dyed all their toes blue. I never bothered to wet it/make burrows, I just gave the geckos plenty of stuff to hide in and around. But good to know that works. The millet stuff I agree would probably rot. Might be good for a desert tortoise but that's all I can think of.
is it easy to form into a cave/basking area.

Yeah, but then its concrete. I can see it working for leos and other terrestrial, non-burrowing geckos, but thats about it.

it would be for a snow leo.

It would be what for a snow leo?

i ment to say ''would it be fine for a snow leo?

Ummm... Care for morphs, locales, etc is the same as it is for the normal ones. The only exception might be albino basking lizards, crocodilians, and turtles because the lights might need to be toned down a bit. But other than that, sure. You can keep a snow leo the same as any other.

I always used play sand from lowe's or hd for my leos, frillies, and beardies never had a problem.

Same here. Usin' it right now.
