would a 55 work? ive heard that people have kept them in tanks that size with good results. what are your opinions:confused:

No way specially with a species that is semi aquatic, and grows to be 24 inches plus. Typical 55 gallon tanks are only 13 inches or so wide. Sure it will work for a grow out but in the future plan ahead and build a 4 long 4 high 2 wide enclosure. Waterproofing it will also be a must so I recommend you use tile board.

ive heard of people keeping them in small enclosures because it prevents them from gaining enough speed to injure themselves when they run into the glass, but a 4' x 2' x 2' should be doable

You should never use glass to begin with with an adult, with a youngster or juvenile, you should use some kind of cover to put in front of the glass so they dont think its free space, ie which is why they run into the glass.

just a few more ?'s
at what size can you sex them?
and is $40 a good price for a juvenile?

40 is a good price and you can tell usually by the time they are 10 or so inches. By head shape and pores on its vent.

If you ask me I think the enclosure should be a bit widder than 2 feet, 3 feet is better:D

Bigger is always better but he asked for minimum, I would not go less than 24 inches. However I agree 3 even 4 feet would be much better for the animal.

also does anyone have a link to a good care sheet for these guys?

Keep it like a chinese water dragon, provide a hot spot with a minimum temp of 110 F have ambients ranging from high 80's to low 70's. Feed cricks roaches worms dusted you can also give some whole prey items like fuzzy mice. Provide lots of climbing branches a water basin, cover (you can use cork tubs or halves to accomplish this) keep it humid minimum 60% humidity. Mist every day as needed to keep humidity stable.

Good luck adult basiliks are gorgeous animals.
