I don't think that's it. When I buy a fish the employee vlows air into the bag so it doesn't fold up and trap the fish. Of course, I'm only 1 block from the LFS.
It was probably an ammonia spike in the bag from dumping all the fish in there.
What species of Minnow? If it was a warm-water fish, maybe they froze?

they were rosy red minnows
