hi mate , check out vandercruz thread "anyone keeping orientals or asiatica" i have put some pics in there , ropey but show how the juvies look ,

will get some picks up of my set-ups during the week once i have had time to clean the glass and tidy up ect , at the moment there scattered all over the house ,but they will eventualy be built into alcoves in the hose and then finnished wood fronts put on them

how many orientals do u have in your 3ft tank and gachua in your 4ft tank.

and have u every breed any

any tips

8 juvie orientals and 5 gachua adults , unfortunatly only bred channa pulchra at the moment , but then i only decided to start breeding snakeheads around two months ago , before that i just had one large mixed tank

with orienatals and gachua , just buy a group ,set up tank with lots of hiding places and some plants , dont change water every two mins , channa prefer old water , most breeders only change the water 4-5 times a year ! , they will as they grow find themselves a pair ,you will know when this happens as the pair will become very aggresive to other members of the group . at that point remove spare fish , the fish will do the rest of the work , once paired up they will remain paired for life

is there a eougth room for your gachua in your tank because iam going to get a 3ft tank or a 4ft tank, so it sounds u need two tanks to breed then.

do you know any good webstie about snakehead e.g gachua and orienatals because there is not a lot of information i can find on the web.

Are channa pulchra expensive

4ft is fine for my gachua , as they are very quite snakeheads and prefer to hide most the day or hang around in the plants ect . also when they pair up then the other fish are moved out ,so just leeves two fish in a 4ft tank . you can leave the fry with the parents they take great care of them ,so you only need the one tank , i have my pulchra fry in there own tank as there parents killed each other shortly after they bred , sometime they get very aggresive after breeding and you may need to put a divider in the tank to seperate the parents , i was two late it happened when i was at work .

pulchra are a fairly new species and still command a fairly decent price , in the shops around £25 - £50 each , as you can see here http://www.tropicalfishfinder.co.uk/stores_products.asp?store=54&cat=61
you can find them cheeper if you find a breeder , but they where only bred for the first time approx 4months ago , mine are still very small at the moment (as you can see from pic) but feeding on crushed hikari carnivoire pellets

the best sites on the net for information are :

do u need a external heating and filter and what did you did with the other gachau (non breeding pairs)

and will i able to buy pulchra of you becuae it will be along time befroe i set up my tank , i need to save some money up .

once the fish pair up , i either sell the spares or if ive started with more than 5 then i would set up another tank and try and pair the ones that are left up ,then sell any spares , allough i am starting to get very short on space for new tanks now lol.

it will be a faie few weeks before i would class mine as ready anyway , so if you fancy pulchra ,give me a shout when you are ready and we will work something out , iam not far from you so could deliver personally for cost of fuel which would work out cheeper and safer than postage anyway ,

filteration is a must , be there are many ways of going about it ,since snakeheads prefer calm / still waters you dont want something that is too powerfull at the surface , personally i use external filters on some tanks and internal filters on some tanks , if you havnt purchace you tank yet , look at ebay i picked up a juwel rio 240 last week for £57 in perfect order , the juwel tanks are great for snakeheads

heating - depending on species , pulchra are sub-tropical so you do not need a heater at all if kept in a house ,the ambient temps are fine for them , if going with orientals you would need a heater as theese are a tropical species , gachua are found in both tropical and subtropical areas so you need to ask supplier ,where have they been collected from so you know if you need a heater or not

cheers col

iam think of buying something new because of delively and because it going up stair and a don't won't it to link down staris and i can't buy anything of ebay because of deviler and iam think of geting a 3ft clearseal tank first because it would be cheaper , then get a 4ft tank. what do you think of clearseal it is cheaper , but you need to buy your own stuff and buy hoods and stand and you need to buy ligths and put then the hood some how.

would it be all right to buy some of you, when the tank are step up and get some and when they pair off and what don't pair up ,could i sell then back to you or swap then and try to pair them up with another snakehead.

clearseal are great tanks , i have many but you need to weigh up the cost apposed to buying a ready made setup ,

clearseal tank 3ft - approx £40 pets at home
fluval 3+ internal filter approx £35 maidenhead aquatics
heater £19 approx maidenhead aquatics
hood £30 approx pets at home
lighting unit £15 maidenhead aquatics
bulb £ 15 maidenhead aquatics
= £154 approx

this unit above includes the stand , you could e-mail them without the stand it would be around the same price and they deliver , also would look much nicer than the clearseal way of doing it , all my clearseals are getting boxed in and finnished off with dressed wood so not so much of a problem for me ,

also keep an eye out in aquarist classifieds you may just pick up a used bargin near you and if not to far away they may deliver it for you

at the end of the day though there is absolustly nothing wrong with a clearseal tank and if you choose that route iam sure you will not be disapointed

pulchra - unfortunatly a 3ft would be too small for a pulchra set up , i would advise 4ft min . orientals would be a great choice for a 3ft tank though, or if you fancy the sub-tropical approch without heater then sp. assam would be another great choice

but can could get some baby snakehead it the 3ft tank and when they get bigger , i will put then in the 4f tank.

don't what snakeheads to get yet. what would you say to get in the 3ft tank and the 4ft tank , what is the best and this will be my first snakehead.

thanks about ebay , i will do that cheers , what do u think about ,

when a get a breeding pairs .the spare i have , we could swap the females or the males and try it again what do u think about that,

on ebay what you find is it a new tank.
cheers
