that's why we have to push one to use english....it's not even worth using anymore, the 'computer/texting language' is the new downfall to our youth's education. :(

And if someone actually said lol out loud, if I didn't smack them, they'd wish I would from the look they were getting....

I also hate people who don't know where to place commas and start sentences without a capital letter. HAHA

zzzzzzzzzzzz boring thread.

I agree with you Laura. We should be checking our grammar even on the forums ,and encouraging people to use the spell check function on the Google toolbar. I'm 16 years old and i don't fully agree that we have such a bad education;I think kids use the shorthand because it's supposedly more convenient (most can write properly if they need to).

This forum is actually pretty relaxed about peoples' writing . There is another forum that i visit that would delete your post if there were any incomplete thoughts or grammar mistakes.

I hate teh with a passion .lol seems to have replaced full stops now :screwy:

It's been mentioned and the consensus is that people aren't concerned about spelling or grammar. This follows the trend in America, where intelligence isn't as important as convenience.

Let me spell it out for you:

 Laura, you got called out on that one. If I was going to create a thread like this, I would make sure that I use proper punctuation.

Lets look at this on the other side. I see the writing styles of hundred of students. Yes the short hand and friendly e-mail/text format as over flowed into the writing of academic or attempt at such papers. I find it extremely difficult to grade a paper that has a smiley face in it. Worse, ya know. If I am lucky they will attempt a spell check, most do not. I fear to ask students to write things out. I know for the most part none of them could spell half the words they are thinking.

Spelling doesn't bother me nearly as much as the people who make stupid comments on threads because they didn't even bother to read any of it.
