:ROFL:A 100kw is still a fair whack of generator. And yeah, three phase, 1000Kw. It's the largest rental generator in our fleet at the moment. let me know when you want it, $2000.00AUD per day. I'll give a MFK discount of course.

LOL, mate have you seen the price of fuel lately...? We'd go broke.
Nice Cummins set too.... its for emergency backup power yeah?

Back to the question at hand, you can buy a petrol (or "gas" as you americans refer to it as) generator, 2 Kva will be more then enough to run a filter, light, heater, air stone etc. The smallest I sell is 3Kva Honda and they go for $700.00 AUD. This will be the easiest method.

Or you can go and buy a battery bank and charge it with a battery charger when you have power. Battery charges usually sell for $100.00 and the battery bank will be a little bit more pricey though. Cheaper then a generator, but you have to charge it every time it is used.

Or you can get a tank of electric eels. You can use them to power your tanks during blackouts... and you can sell the extra electricity back to the grid!! its a fail safe plan! This method is by far the silliest and a clear indication that i am out of ideas.

I used to run two strategies when i had several tanks setup, i used a sponge filter, driven by one of those linear air pumps with a small computer ups, it ran for about 20 hours without power, that took care of power outages while i was not home, at least i had some bio filtration going on, then a 7.5kw generator to run house on when i got home, this way i had all the comforts when electric was off for whatever reason, it is nice to have a freezer and frig that stays cold when power is out.
