I have been itching to set up a new tank (one of my old empties, actually) but I don't have the time or funds to set up anything big right now. I have a 15 gallon hex that I was thinking might be fun. I plan to use an Eheim canister with a built-in heater. I think that with a little tank, the less equipment in the tank, the better.

My question is, what would you stock it with?

I am thinking maybe a few small FW Puffers, but I am open to all ideas that don't involve Neon Tetras (except maybe as dithers or prey...) :grinno:

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against tetras, but right now I already have two community tanks set up.

Suggestions?

not monsters at all, but I'd go with blind cave tetras, which are fascinating fish and also good for single species tanks ime

Exodons... You could get a shoal of 7. They are the definition of "mini Monsters" IMO.

BTT are ok, but a pair of apisto's would be awesome!

Some interesting suggestions, I didn't know that Exodons were aggressive.

You have to keep them in large packs. seven being the absolute minimum, and sometimes that doesn't work. They do well in tighter spaces than some other fish require. If you don't keep enough of them together, they start killing each other.

... Watching them eat is a sight to see.
