I'm getting my hands on a 175g tank, I was wondering if that would be enough to comfortably house a silver aro?

Depending on the dimensions of the tank, it will house a silver aro for only a limited amount of time.

Not for life no. 240G minimum.
Wrong, volume isnt that important, its mostly the footprint that counts. The only standard stock tank that could house a silver for life is a 300 gal. Other than that, if you can find something thats 3 feet wide and 7 feet long, you'll probably be fine.

This question has been asked over and over and over again. Standard 240G 72x30x25 is MINIMUM. When the answer given is 240G we aren't referring to it because its 240G but because 240G standard size is 72x30x25 unless you go 240wide which is 60 x 36 x 25 or 240G tall which is 72 x 24 x 31. Even a standard 300G is still 30" wide.

I noticed in your 180 you have 2 silvers, and they look fairly large.

So to get by all the confusion just state dimensions. My interpretation of a standard 240g is 8'x2'x2' so stating volume creates the problem.

I don't believe you should keep a 30 plus inch fish in a 6 foot tank though. The tank should be at least 3 times the length of the fish.

Lol, I can see that. So I should rule the Aro out then. Any suggestions on what I could put in its place?

a 6 feet long aquarium is NOT going to work. the width may somewhat be fine, but the length definitely is not. Thats why i said 300. 96" long. Btw, the standard 300s we have here come in both 30" and 36".
