a 6 feet long aquarium is NOT going to work. the width may somewhat be fine, but the length definitely is not. Thats why i said 300. 96" long. Btw, the standard 300s we have here come in both 30" and 36".

lol ones a standard the other is a wide. As far as the 240 goes yes its only 6' thus its a MINIMUM once again.

So to get by all the confusion just state dimensions. My interpretation of a standard 240g is 8'x2'x2' so stating volume creates the problem.

I don't believe you should keep a 30 plus inch fish in a 6 foot tank though. The tank should be at least 3 times the length of the fish.

An 8x2x2 240 is a 240 long.

Either way Use the search button here and look at the number of times this question has come up and you'll see the MINIMUM tank size for a Silver arowana is a 240G. Not the reccomended size but the MINIMUM size. The Ideal size would be an 8'x4'x2' tank. But now that the OP has decided to not get an arowana I guess this is all for not. But rest assured that before 2009 is over this question will come up again about 100 more times.

we really need to start a sticky on all this lol.

Problem is noobs don't read stickys:irked:

sometimes we're just a little lazy to hit the search and read through all the threads...haha...but MFKers are nice enough to just reply with their inputs and suggestions.. thanks fellow MFKers

LOL, maybe we should ask mods to fix it so that noobs can only read stickies and until they go through them they cant leave.

Calling people that have an honest question noobs kind of discourages others from even asking at all. Think about this, would you rather someone ask a question that has been asked "X" amount of times? Or have them go out and get a fish that they cannot take care of throughout its entire life, which in turn would be a poorly kept, and miserable fish? Everyone has to learn, and the best way to learn is by asking questions. Thank you to those that gave me an honest answer, and transfered the knowledge over to me.

we are not telling you not to ask questions. But most questions could be answered if people took the time to read the stickies instead of running off to post the question.

I tried using the search, but I didn't get a direct answer, it might have been because I worded it wrong the first time, so I figured I would ask. I ended up finding a thread through the search function, so I kind of feel like a pud for posting this now. :hitting:
