read the "Keeping Parachromis" thread.

And why do people always want the minimum?

Probably because they know its big and cant afford $1000 for bigger tanks.

Same reason everyone doesnt live in a mansion, drive a lambo and have a private plane....money. At least they ask..and dont just go get a 55 and put a 10 inch Dovii in it with a RD and more, ya know?

Yeah it's the $$$. People want a Dovii but can't afford the tank or might not have the space.

i read the thread...i ask minimum cuz im curious why do care so much, dont respond to the thread if your not gonna be helpful

to everyone else thank you guys i was just curious and i know that i get the best answers room this site which is why i asked the question

I know some very skilled aquarists who do great with their fish in 180s. They themselves would prefer bigger tanks though. Personally, I don't want to work that hard, so I'd lean more toward several hundred gallons.......and I'd still expect to change water twice a week with big specimens.

I think the post of Mel O'Meara's fish (ModestMan started the thread) is a perfect example of how best to keep them.

if the tank size/cost is a big issue then what about a good alternative in the shape of grammodes?

Why would you think that? They would :angryfireFLAMED bad.

Sounds like you don't think much of us as fishkeepers....give us some credit.

I would hope so but, I have read hundreds of theads on here with very outrageous fish stocking and people asking , can I add a ________ or a __________ and people just feeding the fire. I could spend a day on here and provide page after page of grossly horrific overstocked post.:nilly: It drives me nuts.

I guess you do not keep dovis, you only have a couple of 125s......right?

No I have never kept a Dovii.
Yes I am down to (2) 125's and a 75.
I did have a 500g 8 years ago with some parachromis sp. though.

If someone cant afford a BIG tank then that cant afford a Dovii period.

It is not just the size and the bioload of this fish but also the fact that they are open water swimmers and need the extra size.

If someone can only afford a 55g then fine, nothing wrong with that..... I have been there. Man answer is then buy 55g size fish. Dont throw a tank buster in a little tank because you cant afford to house it properly.
