minimum oscar tank size?

A single Oscar can live in a 55g for quite some time. But it'll be much happier with the width of a 75g and 75g will have ample room to house two Oscars.
I agree with 75 gallons but there is a LFS here in my town that says a 10 gallon will do as long as you do frequent water changes...... these are the customers that I have to deal with having bought everything from that craphole then dont listen to me when I give them sound advice...
