I no for gars, you need a thicker tank more than you need a longer tank so i was wondering is could a florida live in a 3' wide tank for life? or would it need a wider tank than that?

a 3' wide is better than a 180 anyday(assuming the tank has decent length). what's the tank length? it should probably be enough for life.

a 180 should be fine considering that the tank is 24" wide and floridas rarley reach over 24". but a 3' wide wouldnt hurt at all.

Depending on length, a 3' tank is ideal. I would go with a minimum of 6' long. A 180 (6x2x2) would typically be the minimum size for this gar, but the more room, the better. If you can get a 3' wide tank, then def. do that.

i just caught an adult today lol, then release, of course, (about 27in)

i completely agree, with gars (except when they are juvis) the more room the better.
