Minimum tank size for a Dovii

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
damn, 3 times the weight huh? theres no way my dad could help me then, he'll hurt himself im sure, not trying to be mean or anything, but like i said, he was having troubles with my 90.

hahaha nicee,
do 3 or 4 people.
my friend quinn had to get like 6 or 7 people to bring in his 230 gal.

6x2x2 would be a miniumum sized tank for a pair but you might end up having to put a divider in when they get bigger. depends on how aggressive they are. i went for a 5x2.5x2 instead for 1 dovii as there is a bit more swimming room. personally if you're going to get a pair then i'd say 6x3x2+

thanx for the advise, i dunno if ill be able to fit a 3ft wide tank though, which is why i was hoping a pair would be ok in a 180, i may try it and hope for the best.

Ed, get a 180.
Seriously, a 130 would work fine.
It took 6 guys to get my Oceanic in my basement.
And the 130's Shelby and I have weigh too much, almost as much as 180.
They are heavy suckers.

a pair of dovii would work in a 130? permanently? i wouldnt do that, to small IMO, i was debating as to whether the 180 would be to small LOL

I have a pair of Trimacs in a 4x2x2 120 gal and I know when they finish growing out (male is only 10” now, female around 7”) there is a very strong chance they will not be able to stay together.

My plan to deal with this has been to plumb a 75 or 90 gal tank beneath the 120 to serve as my holding tank for the female (when needed)… And FYI, I’m no expert with Dovii but I considered them when I had a 4x2x2 or a Standard 125 gal available… I went with the Trimacs as I didn’t feel either tank would suit a Dovii pair, even using the holding tank beneath…

But I’ve very against cramming big fish in medium tanks…

I have my male 6.25" Dovii in my 120g (4x2x2), it's just a 2nd phase growout for him. Personally I think a Pair would need a 240 or bigger. A single male could get by in a 180 but once he reach's 20" he'll be very confined in his turning.
