Minimum Tank Size for Aba Aba?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
An Aba Aba can potentionally grow to 5 feet in length but they rarely grow over 3 feet in captivity. They are very smart and become active at night. You will need a tank with the largest footprint possible. It is hard to give an exact answer. Mine is currently in a tank that is 8'Lx3'W2.5'H. He may outgrow this tank eventually but I am sure he will be fine for quite some time.

Noted! I plan to do that tank size too but you know...its too pricey so I am currently saving.

bigger the footprint the better.. I noticed mine does not like to hit her tail on the glass so I would say footprint opposed to "gallons" is the best way to go. imo if you can have an outdoor pond for it... that would be ideal. They also appreciate a planted set-up imo, doesn't have to be anything crazy but soem nice large plants to hide in are mines place of choice. she only goes to the driftwood if she feels "intimidated" otherwise she seems to enjoy watching everything from the plants.

So what tank size would you suggest?

I agree, mine also spends most of his time hiding in the plants. He only comes out to cruise around at night. At about 10:00 pm mine will go to the same spot and wait at the surface hoping I drop in food.

I noticed that when my aba aba was still alive at around 8-11pm. Plan to get another one.

Bigger the better.. while they spend most the day hiding.. they spend most the night expolring.
