Minimum tank size for common/golden shiner

Hey everyone, just curious if I could have a small group of shiners from my local bait store in my 75 gallon tank with 1 male and a couple female pumpkinseeds. I've heard that 12" is the MAX size for the shiners to reach, but that 6" is more likely...any truth to this? Too large for a 75 gallon?

Because P-seeds can max out at 12 inches and Golden Shiners can max out at 12 inches, even though I have never seen them that large, I would not put them in a 75g, I have seen some G. shiners that looked to be about 8-10inches long in a lake. The Common and Striped Shiners max out at 7 inches long and if you get them a little larger than the Pumpkinseeds you should be able to have 3 in a 75g with your P-seeds (as long as theirs structure for them to hide in); but I feel in a 75 g it would be better to get LOngear; Dollar or Spotted sunfish to put in with the common shiners because of space considerations.

Gotcha, I really like pseeds but longears are gorgeous. I wish I had the species you mentioned around here in Mass I'd have to find another way to obtain those species of sunfish, it's just so easy to get pseeds because my license allows me to collect as many as I want and they're all over the place. The 3 sunfish I come across where I love are pseeds, bluegills (which too me just seem to big for a 75), & red breasted sunfish. And I've heard that red breasts can be nasty, almost as nasty as greenies, but then again pseeds can be nasty too... Ahhh I wish there were some longears and O.spots around here

In a couple of months the online native lfs's will have both Longears and O-spots for sale.

I just bought some pseeds and dollar sunnies from Aquabid yesterday

bluegill and red breasted sunnies are too big for a 75. you can get some nice looking longears from zimmermans'. all 13 of mine came from him, along with the greens and pumpkinseeds. as far as nasty, my 6" louisiana longear runs the tank, not even the 12" gill will mess with him. another inch or so and the texas cichlid will be the same size... I have concerns.
