Hey guys just out of curiosity i was wondering if you got a group of 5-6 juvenile jags and let them pair off, how long would a single pair be able to live in a 125 gallon tank before outgrowing it? Ive read online on SOME sites that 125 is enough for a pair if kept alone with strong filtration and being very diligent with water changes.. Other places have suggested larger tanks.. Let me know what you think!
Thanks

125 is recommended for a single male lol. I have a 13-14 male in my 125 and couldn't imagine a female with him with out getting murdered. 180 is what I'd recommend for a adult pair. A 125 should last until they are both nearing 10-11

I have mine in a 180g 6x2x2' even though they're still small. The male is only 6.5" and the female 4.5", but this will be their tank for life. If I was able to do it again I would have gone with the 240g 8x2x2 for the larger footprint to make it easier to have other fish with them.

had my young pair in a 5X2X2 quite happily
used a divider thou till female was about to pop with eggs
had them in a community 8 foot for a few months and still recon i could get it right in the 5 foot even thou male now 10" and rather nasty
would not do it with out a divider thou

you could get away with as low as a 5 foot 120 gallon tank with a divider placed in if aggression arises.( some pairs get along well) ...... I recently read a profile written in the 90's that stated that you can keep a single male in a 4 foot tank and a pair in a 5 foot..... I think that represents the absolute minimum for a pair with the With the best "minimum" being a 180 gallon tank......
I currently have mine in a 120 gallon tank that is divided at times......

+1, my pair are also in a 120.I also divide at times and also agree I definitely wouldn't put them in anything smaller than this.

I was told a 120 should be the minimum size for a pair full-grown jags. I dont know about multiple pairs though.

Atm, my male is about 10" -the female about 9" and they're in a 55 that is too small for them,, even at this size. I cleared out everything, including the substrate and left only a couple of flat rocks, to give them maximum room.
They'll be fine there for the next 8-10 weeks or so.Can't wait to see them properly set-up in the 150 that will be their permanent tank! I was hoping to get starfire front and sides glass panels but Im having trouble ordering one from NYC, -at least the couple of places I've checked with so far.

If the goal is to establish a pair and breed them at a small size, then a 4' tank will be fine.

To keep a pair and grow them to a large size, you'll need a 6' tank...and maybe a divider.

I breed them most aggressive species at 3-4"...
