Like I once said to Neal...cichla do probably need atleast 600 gallons or more.

But lets be realistic...not everyone can provide a tank of this size. Whether we like it or not, these fish will be available to everyone.

So when people ask me what the minimum tank size should be I always suggest a 240g. This is something realistic that is quite possible for most hobbyists thinking of keeping cichla.

Suggesting 600+ tanks is unrealistic and im pretty sure most people would ignore that anyway.

always suggest the right tank size

if they are detered, good.

if not, you tried.

I was looking into getting a 240g for the guys I have right now and that includes a couple of Pbass. There's this rule I heard for large fish and I know I may get a little critism from people, but...For large fish, the length of the tank should be 2-3 times the fish's adult size and the width of the tank should be the same length of the fish's adult size. So for a Pbass, you're looking at a minimum of a tank that's 4' to 6' long (6' sounds better to me though) and 2' wide.

Why can't people search the threads first before posting...?

I think this is the 5th time this has been asked in like a month....!

give the guy a break... he's new and new members are always welcomed to ask and get different opinion.:D

getting back to the topic... i would say minimum of 24 inch on width and it would be better at 30 or 36 inch. big fish also wants some swimming room.. that's why you would need a long and wide tank...:D i don't have a pbass but i have some bichirs and datnoids are grows big too.:D
