Minimum Tank Size.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think I may just stick with the Sengal, as I do want other 'smaller' fish. Like Gilberts Grunters and Mouth Almightys. About 12/15cm, that kinda rules out a Delhezi.

King-el, that is really bad advice. Someone could only afford a 20gal and they'll go put an ornate in it. They would be following your advice, and they wouldn't think they would needto upgrade. Mabye next time you should try to word your posts a little better. ;)

Coming from you. When i got my 20gal i thought it was big, but then i'd only kept guppys before hand, so yeah, best to be sure...

Okay in my opinion 55g or 75g is the min tank size for bichirs or ropefish at 6-10". 30-40g for 4" and below, as in my experince they grow slower in a 10g-20g tank even with plenty of food or regular water change. Plus with the bigger tank you don't have to worry about the amount of bio-load.

in a 60"x18" you would be fine with a few species of bichir, and an ornate would be fine for quite some time as they aren't particularly fast growers compared to some others,as already mentioned a del would be good as they max out at around 14",if you are goimg to keep a sen with some smaller fish then watch out for a size difference as senegals are fairly fast growers and can eat suprisinly big fish, but some seem more likely to do this than others ! good luck Paul

No probs. Is that Pauly from PFK as well? Awesome.

Well so far the smallest fish that will be in that tank is a 25cm white saum. So I don't think there will be huge problems. :D

hi yes i am sometimes on PFK but not for a while ! keep an eye on the cichlid as it may pick on the bichir, better off with a dat or three than a cichlid unless you get something very peaceful like a severum or similar

Na these are Central American Cichlids. Aggressive little buggers.

I agree here is a bit better than PFK, only cos here they accept any fish u have and don't dis you cos u have a PBass in an 8x4 deemed unsuitable there. And you get more replys in a naight which is better for me.

What about a Dat in there. I found out the tank is only 4' but it is 2ft wide. Which is better and worse? :(
