y is it no good to keep jsut one bass, im just curious, can it even be done?

i'd like to know the same thing... i'm sure it can be done, but i was thinking that keeping just one would make it skittish. maybe they feel more secure in groups? can we get more info on this?

Sure you can just keep one Cichla. No one said you couldn't. Most people want to see more then a single fish in there tank. But like any living creature companionship is life. 2 P's make for a better look also in your tank. If your spending that much on this hooby you really should at least have 2 P's. If you want just 1 Cichla then it's not a problem and yes it can be done.

i think its best to have atleast 2 or more because i had a mono by himself in a 29gallon because i was growing him out because he was to small to go in with the orinos and since he was by himself he was very skitish but now since he has been in with the orinos hes always at the front of the tank swiming around with the rest of the pbass.

And this bring me to the point of you want your cichla to be calm. If a 20'' cichla freaks out in any tank your going to have a problem trust me. Possiably even killing itself running through the tank just to get away from you everyday.

im gonna have to disagree with you guys, when you keep only one cichla he is not gonna feel good it will become quit skittish not always but ive seen it, and i really think that it is at least 600 gallon for 2 cichla, i dont feel i can give mine enough room with 635 gallon, sounds crazy but it is they swim 10 feet in halve a sec lol, mine have become 60 cm in 18 months
