Mine was bought at 2" just over 1.5 years ago...it is now right around 18" and growing steadily. Growth will very with these fish (as it does with all fish). If you plan on moving and ditching it, I would strongly advise against it. I don't see the reason for buying a fish that you know you will have to give away in the not to distant future. I would just add to your RPB shoal and enjoy them as long as you can.

I am new to rays. Got two motoros approx. two weeks ago ... one is dead (several days after arrival - was eating and everything but just died). the other one is fine. I seriously do not know whether there are small hardy rays ...motoro will outgrow 125g for sure ... not experienced enough to say how long or how fast.

For me, tank sizes are not really problematic so i just grow them and see if they are getting too small ... i have my neighbors back up pool (in case of emergencies) ... don't think my outdoor set-up can house more fish comfortably.

Sorry someone else would need to answer ray question. MsMassPoly? You got rays, what do you think?

No worry's. I may very well just add to the p shaol. I am jtoying with different ideas for now. I only kept small tanks when I was little. When I was 10-12 I had a ten gallon (guppies and neons) and a 55g that had goldfish with a divider with turtles on the other side. One day the turtles knocked down the divider and ate the goldfish and then the turtles were put in a pond and the 55g was turned into a terrarium. That was about the extent of my experience until this past summer. I saw a rbp in a lfs and had to buy him. Put him in a 10g that my sister left a guppy or two in, for the summer. Then bought a tank cheap from a guy from work to put the rbp in it and saw a rhom a different lfs and had to buy him and put him in there. Now 2 months later Im 5 tanks deep in my apartment at school. What Im trying to get at is that all the fish I have I haven't had any fish long and I dont want to "ditch" them but unfortunately I have to.

The fact that Im going to be moving isn't going to stop me from enjoying this hobby though, I will try to move the fish if I can but if its near impossible I will rehome them.

This is a bad idea as well. The Rhom will eventually take down the Red Belly. If you are going to do a piranha tank stick to the genus Pygocentrus...Most Serra's are solo fishes.

No no no no.. You misunderstood me completely. The serra is/was alone in the tank I got from the buddy at work don't worry I did not miss them. The single red belly was kept in the 10g until I got the 55g running, then I went out and bought way to many red bellys for the 55g . I bought 4 similar size to the one, they are now about 2-2.5 inches and 5 more that are at the one inch mark giving me a total of ten juvey rbp (I know way overcrowded but they were so cute when they were dime size, and they are still relatively small). I was planning a bigger tank when buying them. I have since divided them so the 5 small ones are in a 30g for now and the 5 bigger ones are in the 55g to prevent casaulties. Then I got the 125g for all of them but starting playing with different ideas, such as the arrow. 55 will go to the serra if I move the shoal to the 125g

Don't worry I know not to mix serra and pygo

i have a silver in my 125. But he is young and i have fully acknowledged the fact that he will probably need an upgrade in the next 2 years.

But at least if something terrible happens, like my husband looses his job or something, i'll know he will be OK in there for a while.

If you're moving regularly I'd suggest sticking with small fish that can easily be transported. A 1'+ aro is going to damage itself and get more stressed by moving, and will take longer to settle down. Wait til you're settled then get a 180g then get an aro.

With a Silver being the largest Arowana and the most common (here in the States)...it's safest to make judgements based on that.
