my silver grew almost 4 inches in the first month i've had it, so they can grow much faster than 2 inches a month. it was 6 inches at the start, now hes 10.

Try to have at least 2' for it's width.

With a Silver being the largest Arowana and the most common (here in the States)...it's safest to make judgements based on that.

Is it? Or should we act like knowledgeable aquarists and point out to the new guy that there are several species of arowana and that s/he needs to be more specific?

How do you know he hasn't just seen a pic of an asian somewhere on line and decided he'd like one with out even realising they are illegal? As they say, assumption is the mother of all f***-ups....

Well if you must act knowledgeable, how about providing complete info? You added a pima in your list yet chose to exclude the african arowana, and the african butterfly fish.

BTW you forgot to tell me I forgot S. leichardti, and didn't separate the asian aro into 4 different species.
